abstract paintings on paper

Most of these pieces were created for a gallery show titled the Traveller - a collection of abstract art pieces, mainly on paper,  that depict the story of the internal struggle we have as we pursue the question what it is to be human as we travel from birth to death in this physical body and surrender into the eternal realm.  If you are drawn to something in particular and feel like sharing I would love to hear from you.

I feel it has a clear message about life/death and thinking about how we live before it comes to a close.  I think this is something we all need to ask ourselves at some point in order to figure out if the way we live on the outside lines up with what we believe on the inside. I believe there is a plan, and only through surrendering to the process can we live life more fully carrying out what we are meant to do for the brief time that our feet walk the earth.

These paintings invite viewers into the conversation, what does it mean to fully live? When it is all over, and i sit at the end of my days how will I be? Will I have a lived a life well lived? Is there something more to this life than the physical? Is there a spiritual realm and what does that mean to me?

When I was a teenager, I wrote a poem that was given an award in a magazine. It was about making a choice on how we live before the end of our days. Part of the poem (Choices) goes like this:

“And we go on and on towards eternity,

 There is no turning back,

For the angel of death has come through the door,

We should have made our choices before.”

These paintings speak to me in the same way, but instead of words, this message is through symbols and colour and were part of a show at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery in 2024
