Painting people....I hope to get the feeling of a person / the spirit, the essence of what makes us human. Easier said than done. Realistic painting is not what I am drawn too. I am drawn to what's on the inside of a person, that thing living beyond the surface, the inside that transcends this space.

20x84 It begins and ends with Love
Painted in 2024/2025.
This painting was started as 5 separate paintings after I read the book, “A Simple Path” which looks at the life of Mother Teresa and her work in Calcutta. But somewhere along the line it felt flat. It needed life breathed into it, and that happened when I joined them all together. They now tell a story.
The title of this 5 panel piece (measures 20 inches x 84 inches) is “It begins and ends with Love”
The first panel can be joined at the beginning or the end. The first piece is a pair of hands giving flowers to another – portraying the act of giving and receiving, in the top right-hand corner in a face in the layers.
The second panel has a person in prayer / meditation.
The third walks in faith with the help of the spirit.
The forth waits.
The fifth is the mother and child and from him comes the spiral (symbolic of the interconnectedness of all things through growth, expansion and connection to the divine. Spirals also symbolize the cycle of life, death, and rebirth)

I was inspired by the beauty of the female form as I was doing a lot of people and portrait drawing at the time using photos for inspiration. This painting has a lot of texture in the hair and bodice. It is the essence of beauty and mystery. Crimson, yellow ochre, paynes grey and white blend together to find a sense of harmony, and along the edges of the bodice you will see a transparent grey streak invoking movement as she walks away (or toward?) you. Full of passion, covered in a gloss finish it would make a great addition to your home or office.

8x10 Amazon Man
While I was taking a drawing class I became inspired by a painting I saw at the time. Through that the creation of amazon man came about. I was living in Nicaragua and the people’s struggle and attitude to overcome are a definite influence on the piece, depicting the fierceness of man/woman as he/she overcomes his challenges. Bronze colour highlights make the image jump off the canvas.

8x10 Memories of the Caribbean (La donna)
Inspired by a picture of a lady in a magazine, I was attracted to this as she has a face that knows sadness, yet beauty. I used complementary colors to highlight the contradictions of inner struggle and balance to arrive at something that is both beautiful, serene and a little bit melancholy.
