Education
Mainly a self-taught artist, I have had the opportunity to travel around the world and learn to appreciate various types of art forms. I have seen big beautiful art shows and small creative studios on the backs of the hillside in the poor countries. Art unites us in our spirit of creativity and resilience. I have been influenced by the artworks of Gustav Klimit, Salvador Dali and MC Escher - the ideas behind the creation of artwork to touch an inner part of the soul, working within the subconscious mind to create something odd and wonderful.

I studied watercolor painting under a professional artist while growing up and excelled in all things “Art”. In 2001, I painted a mural in a Guatemalan School. In 2003 I was living in the Cayman Islands and started to have people ask me to paint them things. I used to sit at the feet of an abstract artist and be enthralled for hours as to what was happening on these 60x60 canvases. Between the years of 2005 – 2008 I helped design a very funky artistic Eco lodge in Nicaragua. This allowed me to experiment with 3D art, building things in clay as well as painting. In 2018 I moved back to Canada after being abroad for almost 25 years.

My artwork took off from drawing, acrylic and watercolor expression into the abstract mixed media form, inspired by nature. This allowed for a lot of experimentation and a deeper understanding of how color affects mood and has a language of its own. While I may start with general idea, my process is guided by intuition as I wait to see where the painting is unfolding. More and more I find myself wanting to paint the essence of something, the feeling behind a particular subject.
